Chickenpox And Shingles Virus

The shingles virus is the same virus that causes Chickenpox. It is called varicella zoster or herpes zoster and is dormant for the rest of somebodies life after acquiring Chickenpox.

A shingles virus outbreak is caused by a reactivation of the shingles virus and has therefore no incubation period.

The symptoms of shingles virus are muscle aches, itching and sometimes pain in the area of reactivation.

Shingles Contagious Period And Incubation Period

Shingles has no incubation period since it is caused by a reactivation of a previous chickenpox infection.

The incubation period for chickenpox is 2-3 weeks. The shingles contagious period ends when the blisters with the contagious fluid scab over.

While the infectious period for chickenpox is about 1-2 days before appereance of the rash the infectious period for shingles lasts until the lesions have crusted over.
