What Are Shingles?

What is shingles? The shingles disease is a viral infection caused by the varicella zoster or herpes zoster virus which also causes chickenpox.

A prerequisite for a shingles virus outbreak is that a person had chickenpox before since what brings on shingles is a reactivated varicella zoster virus that is dormant for the rest of a persons life.
